Internship – Customer Analyst
Location: Head Office (London)
Duration: Eight weeks
Salary: Competitive, pro rata
In the Customer Team, we’re passionate about getting to know our customers. How do they shop? What products do they love the most? What are their favourite stores? How do they browse the M&S website? And when we’ve got this information, we make sure that the business derives maximum value from it.
If you’re interested in seeing how we use rich data and analytics to drive business decisions, this internship is for you.
Over the eight weeks, you’ll team up with another analyst to deliver one or two analytical projects. This will involve sitting down with a business stakeholder to find out exactly what’s wanted on the project, carrying out the analysis using Excel, DQL and/or Spotfire, and then delivering the outputs with your recommendations on business actions.
To give you an idea of the kind of thing you might be doing, imagine that we’ve sent out an email to targeted shoppers. You’ll analyse how the email performed. Did it drive incremental value? Did certain shoppers respond to it better than others? What can be done to improve the performance of the email next time? You would answer all these questions and more.
In addition to gaining a firm grasp of customer analytics, you’ll get to see other functions within the team, such as Research, Data Science, Customer Relationship Management and Loyalty. This will enable you to see how everything fits together.
We look for commercially aware second-year students with strong analytical skills and, particularly, a keen interest in data analytics. You should be familiar with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, and be comfortable with programming – if you’ve used SQL before, that would be great. A strong work ethic, an eye for detail, friendly personality and the ability to work with people of different ages and experience are also expected.
